HOW CAN PCR TESTING ENABLE SAFE GLOBAL TRAVEL?

With our gold-standard PCR testing propositions, governments and travel and health authorities can implement safe and science-led mechanisms to monitor and manage travellers who cross their borders. Travellers who test positive: they simply quarantine as country-specific legislation dictates. Travellers who test negative: they continue about their lives, free from quarantine. It’s a simple and science-led solution to COVID-19 and its devastating impact on global economies and the wider travel industry. It’s an approach currently successfully adopted across the globe, vastly reducing the need for blanket country travel quarantines.

WHAT TESTING PROPOSITIONS CAN WE OFFER?

We recognise that each country and airport is unique in their requirements for managing passenger flows and the landscape is constantly changing. With this in mind, we take a tailored approach to devising the most appropriate solution for your specific needs, with safety and traveller experience at the forefront.

TEST-ON-ARRIVAL: OUR PROPOSED HEATHROW PILOT

This PCR testing solution enables travellers to be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival back into Heathrow, Terminal X. Travellers simply book an appointment before they depart for Heathrow, take the test at the airport (which takes just 90 seconds) and then depart the airport for their final destination to await their results in comfort. Results are back with the traveller typically within five hours, and then based on the result, they will need to quarantine, or go about their lives as normal. Subject to government approval, we’re ready to kick-off.

DEVELOPING A TWO-TEST- MODEL

Working in partnership with Public Health England, we also have the capability to implement a ‘Two-Test-Model’, further strengthening the reliability of an already scientifically-rated testing procedure. Following a traveller’s first negative test, travellers would be released from quarantine but must provide a second sample at day 5. This would be completed at home and sent in the post to our biotech laboratories, to be tested again.

There are then two possible outcomes. One, the first negative test is confirmed by a second negative test; or two, and in the unlikely event that the second PCR test was positive, the traveller in question would need to immediately quarantine in line with the relevant quarantine regulations. A safety net to an already robust and science-led testing proposition.

THE SCIENCE

The tests use the gold standard of virus detection, RT-PCR testing. They are sensitive enough to detect the particles of COVID-19, even if the passenger has displayed no symptoms and is asymptomatic.

This science has been examined and proven by scientists in multiple countries across the world, who are currently using PCR testing to ensure the safety of travellers and their borders.
