Medical Assistance Team
Collinson’s medical service department, which is supported by teams of 28 doctors and 87 nurses across our locations both in the UK and Ireland, is led by Dr. Simon Worrell, Global Medical Director. In addition to providing medical direction to our medical assistance teams, Simon focuses on wider international health challenges faced by global travellers, such as Ebola and Zika pandemics and provides regular updates, helping to keep travellers and expatriates informed and safe as they work and holiday internationally. He has over 20 years of experience in the delivery of international medical assistance and emergency care and significant specialist expertise in immunology and communicable diseases.
He worked in NHS hospitals for nine years, where he specialised in the management of communicable diseases. Dr. Worrell is supported by our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marianne Jackson, who is clinical lead of the Collinson medical team. She is dual qualified in emergency medicine and general practice and is currently also working in an emergency department as a GP. Prior to joining Collinson, Marianne spent 12 years working in assistance medicine, most recently as Regional Medical Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at AIG (Travelguard).
Collinson’s medical assistance platforms provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Routine medical advice, assistance or emergency calls are triaged directly by a team of 90 assistance staff. Annually, we answer more than 1 million requests for assistance; respond to over 95,000 emergency calls; manage over 40,000 medical cases; and conduct over 3,000 aero-medical evacuations.
